  18. Battery Master was written to make the use of your battery
  19. powered portable computer easier and less frustrating.  It
  20. provides a gauge or meter to estimate the power of your
  21. computer's battery.  Battery Master is a TSR (Terminate and Stay
  22. Resident) program that can be popped-up while you are using other
  23. programs.  It displays useful information pertaining to your
  24. battery such as the battery time remaining, percent battery
  25. remaining, time elapsed since recharge, and capacity at the
  26. current usage rate. With Battery Master, you can better plan the
  27. use of your battery powered computer and avoid loosing
  28. information as a result of a power loss. You will welcome the

  34. Installation of Battery Master onto your portable computer is
  35. fully automatic.  Battery Master automatically configures itself
  36. for over 75 models of battery powered computers.  The data used
  37. for configuration is based on actual testing rather than
  38. manufacturer claims.  If your computer is not specifically
  39. supported, simply select the generic configuration and Battery
  40. Master will learn the characteristics of your machine after each
  41. recharge.

  46. The heart of Battery Master is its pop-up battery gauge that is
  47. displayed on the first page of this pamphlet.  This screen can be
  48. popped-up while you are using your application programs.  It
  49. provides a graphical gauge of your computer's remaining battery
  50. power.  From this screen you also control alarms that give an
  51. audible warning as battery power diminishes.

  77. Battery Master keeps a history of your computer's battery
  78. performance so that it can learn the characteristics of your
  79. particular computer.  As your history file builds after a series
  80. of recharges, Battery Master's Calibrate(TM) feature will make
  81. suggestions in an effort to help Battery Master more precisely
  82. predict consumption based on your particular usage

  88. Calibrate also displays a graphic bar chart of the performance
  89. history of your battery.  This helps you identify the "memory
  90. effect" that is typical of NiCad batteries.  "Memory effect"
  91. occurs when a battery is repeatedly recharged prior to being
  92. fully depleted. The battery remembers and as a result looses
  93. capacity.  Once identified, "memory effect" can be reduced
  94. somewhat by a total discharge.  This is accomplished using
  95. Battery Master's Total Discharge program.

  101. completely discharge your computers battery.  This helps reduce
  102. the "memory effect." Battery Master's

  107. Battery Master estimates battery consumption by starting with a
  108. specific capacity for your computer. This value is either chosen
  109. by you or the installation program.  While the computer is
  110. running, Battery Master records information concerning CPU speed,
  111. back lighting, modem usage and other information that influences
  112. battery consumption.  Based on those factors over time, Battery
  113. Master calculates the capacity and battery time remaining at the
  114. current usage rate.  If you change the CPU speed or one of the
  115. other factors controlled by Battery Master's main window, it
  116. instantly reacts by displaying revised figures for capacity and
  117. time remaining.
